Scania joins The Climate Pledge

Scania is joining Amazon and Global Optimism in The Climate Promise, and is now among the companies committing to reach net no carbon emissions by 2040– 10 years ahead of the Paris Arrangement.

« Scania has actually set far-reaching environment targets and we look forward to team up with like-minded companies to provide the transformational action required to tackle environment modification. We are proud to stand with the other signatories of The Climate Pledge, » says Scania President and CEO Christian Levin.

Cooperation is important in speeding up action on environment modification, and Scania, together with the other 200 signatories work on enthusiastic actions to achieve net no carbon emissions.

« Heavy business transport is no longer a hard-to-abate sector. We know how to minimize the emissions. We have the technology and we understand what we need to do. I prompt other business in the market to follow in addition to other stakeholders involved in achieving a sustainable transportation system, » states Levin.

The Environment Promise, led by former UN climate chief and starting partner of Worldwide Optimism Christiana Figueres, and Tom Rivett-Carnac, former political strategist at the UNFCCC, seeks to combine a group of companies and companies that are prepared to move faster and influence higher climate action.

« The current report released by the IPCC is the starkest warning yet that the systems supporting human life are reaching tipping points which the window of time to act decisively is narrowing, » states Figueres. « This wake-up call from science should be confronted with nerve and conviction. In this light, it’s encouraging that 86 more companies– a few of the largest household names in the world– are now joining The Environment Pledge, devoting to accelerate their actions to tackle climate modification in a prompt fashion, and playing their part in developing a low-carbon economy. I look forward to the fruits of the leadership we will see from this cumulative of 200 signatories that are now part of The Environment Promise. »

Scania is among these 86 new signatories joining the initiative, and the cumulative impact from The Climate Pledge will develop a low-carbon economy with extensive effects on individuals, wildlife, and resources.

« I believe that now, more than ever, companies like Amazon have a commitment to lead the fight for our planet, » stated Andy Jassy, Amazon CEO. « But, resolving this difficulty can not be achieved by one business; it requires all of us to act together, and it is among the factors we’re so fired up to reveal that more than 200 businesses have joined us in signing The Environment Pledge– a commitment to reach the objectives of the Paris Contract 10 years early. »

The dedication to The Climate Pledge suggests Scania agrees to 3 principals of action: concentrate on service advancement:

– Step and report greenhouse gas emissions on a regular basis;
– Implement decarbonization techniques in line with the Paris Contract through real organization changes and innovations, including effectiveness improvements, renewable energy, materials decreases, and other carbon emission removal strategies;
– Reduce the effects of any staying emissions with extra, measurable, genuine, irreversible, and socially-beneficial offsets to attain net no annual carbon emissions by 2040.
